Working out at home is probably something that we’ve all tried at some point in our lives but never managed to stick with it for more than a couple of weeks, in my case days.
What I want to do with this article is to give you some tips that will help you plan your home workout routines, what exercise machines are better and stuff like that.
When it comes to exercising at home, you don’t to spend hours. If you workout for 15 to 30 minutes daily in the morning, it’s more than enough and you’ll results relatively fast.
Some people recommend you stick to body weight exercises but personally I really enjoy using machines.
I have a rowing machine and an elliptical trainer at my house that both me and my wife use almost on a daily basis. The rowing machine was a bit expensive but the benefits are worth it.
If you’re thinking of getting a good cardio/fitness machine for your home you can check out Home Workout Magazine, a website that reviews all types of home exercise equipment and looks for deals online.
On the other hand if you don’t want to spend too much money at this point you can start with body weight exercises.
My all time favorite body weight exercise is probably the squat. At first do squats with any additional weight and as your fitness level improves hold weights in your hands while your squatting.
Just as squats, push ups are also a very complete body weight exercise that activates a lot of muscle groups and it’s really effective for burning fat.
Push ups also strengthen your shoulders and allows you to go for harder shoulder exercises in the future.
Another exercise I like to do for my legs is lunges. What I do is I lunge-walk around the room for about 2 minutes, I rest for 30 seconds and then start again. I do this about 4 times.
As I’ve said above I also workout on the elliptical trainer. This machine helps strengthen my knee joints and it has a lot of workout programs you can choose from.
If you’re thinking about money, let me say that you can get a decent elliptical machine for under $500 which you can use to do cardio.
The bad part is that it takes a lot of space, but if you have a large room or garage then it’s ok.
Rowing machines, most of them can be folded so they take very little space when you’re not working out.
As for treadmills, I know a lot of people like to get a treadmill for home, but I enjoy running outside most of the times and if that’s not possible I just get on the rowing machine and do 30 minutes of rowing.
I’m not sure what much else I can say to you right now, I know this post is all over the place but hopefully you found it somewhat useful.
By the way here’s a video that gives you a better understanding about bodyweight exercises you can do at home:
